Live Scan Hardware Preventive Maintenance Instructions

Performing regular maintenance, as recommended by the live scan device manufacturer, is a critical part of ensuring that your equipment operates properly and functions at maximum capacity.  Mentalix highly recommends that you follow the manufacturer's instructions for maintaining your live scan device.  See the manufacturer's documentation for your specific live scan model.

For your reference, the basic preventive maintenance recommendations for the supported live scan devices are listed below.  However, this information is intended as an overview and does not take the place of the complete manufacturer's guide.

Daily Maintenance

The operator is responsible for conducting the following daily procedures:

  • Keep the scanner platens and the whole scanner workspace clean at all times.
  • Do NOT use glass cleaner.  Use only the included microfiber cloth or sticky-back sheets to clean the scanner platen lens.  IMPORTANT: This only applies to the models listed above.
  • Do not use oily or abrasive cleansers!  Do not use anything with a moisturizer (such as baby wipes) on the scanner; moisturizers should only be used on fingers.
  • Clean the platens before starting a new booking process in order to obtain the best quality prints.
  • Protect the scanner from any physical damage!  Do not use sharp tools (e.g., knives, keys, etc.) in close proximity to the platens, and be extremely careful if the person to be booked is wearing handcuffs.
  • When not using the live scanner, make sure the keyboard is hidden inside the cabinet and the scanner cover is in place over the scanner's surface.
  • Keep the louvers on the cabinet rear side free; do not install the cabinet directly next to walls or furniture that might disable the cooling air flow.
  • Keep the air intakes on the scanner's rear side free; in order to ensure free air flow, do not cover them.

Weekly Maintenance

To ensure maximum performance of the machine and to avoid an operating system performance decrease, shut down and reboot the live scan workstation computer once per week at a suitable time.
