Subject: Configuring multiple Fed Submit stations to use a remote,
third-party e-mail server
Revision Date: September 3, 2004
Problem:
How do I configure multiple Fed Submit stations to use my third-party
e-mail server on a remote machine?
Solution:
Using a third-party e-mail server with Fed Submit can greatly increase
efficiency when submitting large numbers of transactions per day.
By configuring multiple remote Fed Submit stations to submit to
an agency via an e-mail server on the LAN, you can achieve an even
higher rate of submission.
Prerequisites:
- You have an e-mail server running similar to the one described
in Application Note #3001.
- You are successfully submitting to an appropriate agency via
a dial-up or high-speed VPN connection from your Fed Submit "master"
station. The master station should be configured as below:
- Check "Send as Single-Part MIME Attachment."
- SMTP Server: 127.0.0.1
- SMTP Port: 25
- Leave Mail Profile Name/Password information blank.
- Check "Automatically Send Transactions."
- Check "Don't Confirm Send Transactions."
- Check "Submit Only (Response Handling Not Supported)."
Instructions:
Your remote stations will be configured exactly as your master
station -- with one exception.
- Update the SMTP Server address to the IP address of your master
station. You can find your master station's IP address by going
to the master station and running "ipconfig" from the command
prompt.
- Configure a unique range of TCNs for each station.
