Mentalix Application Note #3001
Product: Fed Submit
Software Version(s): 1.x
Platform(s): Windows 2000/XP
Subject: Local e-mail server enables submission of transactions
in the background
Revision Date: September 3, 2004
Problem:
When using a modem (or other low-speed connection), submitting
a transaction causes Fed Submit to pause until the transmission
is complete.
Prerequisites:
You are already successfully submitting transactions to a destination
agency such as the American Banker's Association (ABA) and have
the SMTP server hostname or IP address provided by the destination
agency (in this example we will use ABA's SMTP address of 199.98.222.11).
Solution:
Installation of a low-cost, third-party mail server product can
greatly enhance your productivity in this scenario by offloading
and performing the transaction delivery outside of Fed Submit. The
third-party mail server can be easily configured for this sole purpose
without disrupting other system mail functions. After straightforward
installation and configuration, Fed Submit will instantaneously
transfer submissions as they are created to the mail server and
then will allow immediate subsequent creation of additional transactions
or use of other Fed Submit functions. The third-party mail server
can be configured to immediately transfer submissions to the destination
agency as a background activity, either immediately or as a scheduled
batch operation.
Benefits:
Use of a third-party mail server enables transaction submission
in a background task and is strongly recommended for all users with
low-speed submission transfer capability, or for users who utilize
Fed Submit on a mobile (offline) system.
