Mentalix Application Note #10001a
Product: Pixel!FX
Software Version(s): 5.1-014 and up
Platform(s): All Platforms
Subject: Trouble starting Pixel!FX products
Revision Date: December 15, 1997

Problem:

When trying to start Pixel!FX one of the following error messages is displayed:

  1. 'difficulty opening password file () no such file or directory'

  2. 'License server host: <hostname> specified in the password file is invalid'

  3. 'Incorrect host name: <hostname> specified in the password file'

  4. 'Incorrect License Server machine ID: <wrongID> specified. Actual unique machine ID: <correctID>'

  5. 'License server password has expired'

  6. 'License server password Start Time or Stop Time is incorrect'

  7. 'Password line for program <programname> contains invalid entries'

Solution:

  1. Install the password and make sure it is in $PIXELFXDIR/passwd/passwd.

  2. Please check LICENSE SERVER HOST line in $PIXELFXDIR/passwd/passwd file and verify that the license server host name matches the output from the command "hostname".

  3. Please check HOST line in $PIXELFXDIR/passwd/passwd and verify that the host name matches the output from the command "hostname".

  4. Please check HOST line in $PIXELFXDIR/passwd/passwd and verify that the unique machine ID (third entry in the line) is valid.

  5. Password has expired. Contact Mentalix for a possible extension of the password.

  6. Please run $PIXELFXDIR/bin/password and match the Start time and Stop time entries with those on the password that was sent by Mentalix. If you have a Permanent/Forever License, Stop Time entry should be 0 (zero).

  7. Please check your password file: $PIXELFXDIR/passwd/passwd. There are invalid entries in PROGRAM lines. Possibilities are: invalid license, wrong version number, incorrect time stamp, wrong password strings, and/or invalid characters (such as; '=', '>', etc.).
