Mentalix Application Note #10001

Subject: Trouble starting Pixel!FX products

Problem:

When trying to start Pixel!FX one of the following error messages is displayed:

1. 'difficulty opening password file ( ) no such file or directory'

2. 'warning[main] RPC: Program not registered'

3. 'warning[main] RPC: Unknown host'

4. 'error[verify_server]: license server host imposter'

5. 'error[verify_server]: License server has expired. Sorry, no Pixel!FX licenses available'

Solution:

1. Install the password and make sure it is in $PIXELFXDIR/passwd/passwd.

2. Verify that the license server hostname matches the hostname used for the password.

3. Verify that the license server unique machine id matches the unique machine id used for the password.

4. Look at the /$PIXELFXDIR/passwd/passwd file and verify the host key information with the password provided by Mentalix.

5. Call Mentalix for a possible extension of the password.
